5,000 tardigrades (water bears) and 128 glow-in-the-dark baby squid are preparing to be launched into space by NASA. These animals are launched by NASA next week on June 3 as a part of SpaceX's 22nd cargo resupply mission.
SpaceX is ready to launch these microscopic creatures to space in a Falcon 9 rocket at 1:29 pm EDT (Eastern Daylight Time) on June 3 from Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
When viewed with a microscope, Tardigrades look like bears, that's why they get their nickname "water bears". They are very tiny, just 0.04 inches (1 mm) long.
They are capable of living in extreme radiation, pressures six times those found in the deepest parts of the ocean and total vacuum of space, making these creatures tougher. Thousands of dehydrated Tardigrades were carried by the Israeli Spacecraft Beresheet but due to a failed landing it crashed on the moon on 11th April 2019.
