2 female journalists
New Delhi: two female journalists, named Sammriddhi Sakunia and Swarna Jha, working in HW news, an FIR has been fired against them in Fatikroy police station in the Unakoti district of Tripura. The FIR filed against them has been on the basis of the written report, which was submitted by Kanchan Das a member of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad.
The FIR filed against them, has been under the charges of IPC Section 120B (Criminal Conspiracy), 153A (Promoting enmity between different religious groups) and 504 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace). Both the journalists were on the spot where the Tripura violence took place. The violence had erupted in the state post attack on the Hindu minority in Bangladesh.
The filled FIR alleges that, MS Samriddhi and Ms Swarna while visiting a Muslim locality in Paul Bazar area of Unakoti district, delivered “instigating speeches against Hindus and Tripura Govt”. The complaint had also said that MS Samriddhi had also “falsely imparted”, on the name of Hindu Parishad and also the Bajrang Dal behind the fire at the Paul Bazar masjid.
The complaint also went on to alleged that, being a part of criminal conspiracy, and to destroy the communal harmony in Tripura as well as to malign VHP and Tripura govt the account holder intentionally imparted the name of VHP in that incident which would affect the harmony between Hindu and Muslim community. ”
Sakunia said that the police had arrived at the hotel and they were staying in at around 10:30 PM, at night, and went on to give the FIR copy at around 5:30 am in the morning. But during that time the police further did not further produce any of the warrant.
On Sunday Sakuna had tweeted that she along with Jha were not given the permission to leave their hotel despite the fact that they were fully cooperating with the police. Furthermore the tweets also mentioned that we were supposed to leave for the capital Agartala but have been not allowed to move despite full cooperation. There are around 16-17 police deployed outside our hotel.”
