3 Bengal kids drown in rainwater collected in the ditch
On Saturday, At the Nandanpur village in Bengal’s Murshidabad district, Three minor children drowned in the ditch, which was filled up by the rainwater. The ditch was dug by the villagers in the field for collecting the mud for a local brick kiln.
The children who died were identified as eight years old Sahidul Sheikh, six years old Rashid Sheikh, and an eight-year-old girl Asha Khatun. All the kids were cousins.
The village told the police that it had been raining in the village for the last few days, due to which the ditch was filled. The three children went to the field to play but did not return till late evening.
After that, their bodies were found floating in the water. The children were declared dead at the Nashipur hospital.
One of the relatives of the children, Maksedh Sheikh, said, “ The incident has shattered us.”
He also further added, “ A local brick kiln owner dug the ditch a few days ago. The field is part of the brick kiln. The children apparently failed to spot the stagnant water since it was dark.”
