6.4 on Richter scale jolts Assam
Earthquake of magnitude 6.4 on richer scale rocked Assam and tremors of which were also felt in Meghalaya and some parts of North Bengal. This earthquake was recorded around 7.5 1 AM on Wednesday. As per the analysis from national Centre of seismology, the epicentre of earthquake was Sonitpur, near the tri-junction of Arunachal Pradesh – Assam – Bhutan border. The records so far shows that the region also felt several after-shocks since three more tremors followed the main earthquake. The second jolt measured to be 4 on richer scale wasrecorded 22 minutes post to the first one and the third joint recorded 3 on the richer scale.
On prior basis Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Assam chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and assured every possible aid. Also the union home minister Amit Shah spoke to the Assam CM and prayed for everyone’s safety and well-being.
This was a massive earthquake and created panic among the people as they ran out of their homes to other pieces. So far one person has been reported as injured in Guwahati due to a brick wall that fell on him. This earthquake caused massive massive destruction to the buildings including hospitals, hotels, commercial buildings and apartments across the state.
