An official said on Wednesday that police had apprehended a 34-year-old man for threatening to hijack planes from Bhopal and Indore airports and board them to Pakistan. According to Bhopal's Gandhinagar police station in-charge Arun Sharma, officials at the Raja Bhoj Airport got a phone call about 5 p.m. on Tuesday, where the caller made the threat. The airport management afterward filed a complaint with the Gandhinagar police.
"The man, who allegedly threatened to hijack the planes, was caught late Tuesday night from Shujalpur town (about 100 km from Bhopal). He is being extensively questioned as part of the investigation into the matter," said the officials.
Following the threat call, security at the Bhopal airport has now been strengthened, said to another officer. He said a Mumbai-bound flight took off from Bhopal on Tuesday evening following a thorough security check.
