“In addition to those financed through COVAX, Australia, India, Japan and the United States have pledged to donate more than 1.2 doses globally of safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine, '' The QuAd joint statement said.
Despite months of pandemic in the region and around the world, we have achieved a lot so far. Quad executives welcome the production of at least one billion safe and effective COVID-19 vaccines by Biological E LTD, also through our Quad investments, by the end of 2022. Today we are proud to announce a first step towards that delivery which will immediately help the Indo-Pacific and the world end the pandemic.
The Quad also welcomes India's announcement to resume exporting safe and effective COVID-19 vaccines, including COVAX, from October 2021. Japan will continue to help its regional partners purchase vaccines through a $ 3.3 billion COVID-19 emergency relief loan. Australia will provide $ 212 million in vaccine purchase grants for Southeast Asia and the Pacific. In addition, Australia will allocate US $ 219 million to assist in the delivery of vaccines on the last mile and to lead the coordination of the Quad's last mile efforts in these regions.
“We will also increase our scientific and technological (S&T) collaboration on clinical trials and genomic surveillance so that we can accelerate our efforts to end this pandemic and strengthen health security. We are committed to aligning ourselves with shared global goals to help the world immunize now, save lives and build better, including through strengthening global health security finance and political leadership. Our countries will also organize a joint pandemic preparedness or exercise in 2022”.
In the future, they will not only deepen our cooperation in these critical areas, but also expand into new ones. Based on all of our regional infrastructure efforts, we are individually and jointly entering into a new quad infrastructure partnership. As a Quad, we will meet regularly to coordinate our efforts, understand the infrastructure needs of the area, and understand the regional needs and capabilities.
“We will work together to provide technical assistance, provide regional partners with assessment tools, and promote sustainable infrastructure development. We support the G7 infrastructure efforts and look forward to working with like-minded partners, including the EU. We reaffirm the G20's principles of investing in quality infrastructure and will redouble our efforts to deliver quality infrastructure in the Indo-Pacific”.
“We confirm our interest in continuing our involvement in the Blue Dot Network. We emphasize the importance of supporting open, fair and transparent lending practices in accordance with international rules and standards for major creditor countries, including debt sustainability and liability, and urge all creditors to comply with these rules and standards”.
