President Joe Biden
President Joe Biden of the United States said he intends to complete the evacuatin of US troops from Afghanistan by the end of the month, but he warned of the potential of terrorist strikes on the packed Kabul airport.
Joe Biden, speaking at the White House, stated that his “hope is that we will not have to extend [the deadline]” and that the mission will be completed by August 31, the date agreed upon with the Taliban.
Biden cautioned that Islamic State extremists known as ISIS-K represent a persistent threat, which is why US officials are eager to accomplish the mission as soon as possible.
"We know that terrorists may seek to exploit the situation," he stated. "It's still a dangerous operation."
When reporters asked what he would say to foreign leaders who requested additional time, Joe Biden replied, "We'll see what we can do."
"They (the US administration) have abandoned the American people and actually withdrew our troops before they removed the American people," Indian-American politician and former US envoy to the United Nations Nikki Haley said earlier in the day. They have abandoned our Afghan partners, who were responsible for keeping people like my husband safe while they were deployed overseas. As a result, there was no wrangling. This was a thorough and utter capitulation, as well as a humiliating failure.”
