India Monsoon

The four-month summer monsoon, which ended as a 'normal' season on Thursday and is about to withdraw from October 6, could boost India's agriculture with sufficient soil moisture levels to support rabi or winter With leaves at a good level. At a time when the economy remains recovering from Covid.

The withdrawal, the second most delayed since 1960, comes at a time when the India Meteorological Department's (IMD) prediction of a 'normal' winter monsoon will help the 2021-22 crop year (July-June cycle) stay on track. To give a much needed boost to the rural economy, for record production of food grains in a pandemic hit yearThe total area under kharif (summer sown) crops like paddy, pulses, cotton and maize has already crossed the normal sown area figure.

Sufficient soil moisture due to water storage in reservoirs and good rains in 30 out of 36 meteorological subdivisions, 83 per cent of the total area, will also help in sowing of rabi (winter sown) crops like wheat and mustard. With the kharif season performing well, the news for the agricultural economy remains positive, a crucial redeeming feature that has helped mitigate the impact of the pandemic in rural areas.
