World Archery released its newest rankings on Monday, and archer Deepika Kumari became the new world number one. She won the Recurve solo event 6-0 to clinch her hat-trick of gold medals at the Archery World Cup Stage 3 in Paris on Sunday.
Kumari, an excellent archer from India, thrashed Elena Osipova of Russia with a score of 6-0. Deepika's second solo World Cup gold medal of 2021 and her third gold of the day, as she also won gold on Sunday in the women's team and mixed team events.
"I am happy, but at the same time, I have to continue my performance like this. I want to improve that because the upcoming tournament is very, very important to us. I am trying my best to continue learning whatever I can," the official website of World Archery quoted Kumari as saying.
Deepika and Atanu had previously won their first World Cup gold medal as a couple, beating Gabriela Schloesser and Sjef Van Den Berg of the Netherlands 5-3 after a knockdown.
Deepika Kumari, Komalika Bari, and Ankita Bhakat of India's women's recurve team won gold at the Archery World Cup Stage 3 in the French capital earlier in the day.
In the finals, the squad outscored Mexico 5-1. The next competition is the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, which commence in less than a month.
Kumari will be the lone female archer representing India in Japan, following a complete men's squad in their quest for the nation's first archery medal only at the world's largest sports event.
