Pakistan's T20 World Cup squad in 2021
Lahore: With just over a month until the start of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2021, Pakistan cricket selectors have selected a 15-player roster that is experienced, well-balanced, and formidable. The same team would play against New Zealand and England in the upcoming Twenty20 Internationals.
The seven home T20Is will be played in Lahore and Rawalpindi from September 25 to October 14, followed by Pakistan's ICC Men's T20 World Cup opener in Dubai on October 24 versus India in a clash of former champions. Asif Ali and Khushdil Shah, both domestic performers, have been brought into the side to provide more firepower in the middle order.
Asif played his 29th and final T20I for Pakistan against Zimbabwe earlier in the month, averages 16.38 with a strike rate of 123.74, and his total T20 strike rate is 147. Khushdil Shah's ninth and final T20I came in Lahore earlier this year against South Africa. The left-hander averages more than 21 runs per over and has a strike rate of 109.24, with a T20 strike rate of 134.
Arshad Iqbal, Faheem Ashraf, Fakhar Zaman, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Sharjeel Khan, and Usman Qadir have been left out of Pakistan's T20I squad for the England and West Indies series, while Fakhar and Usman, together with Shahnawaz Dahani, have been designated as the three travelling reserves.
Five batsmen (Asif Ali, Babar Azam, Khushdil Shah, Mohammad Hafeez, and Sohaib Maqsood), two wicketkeeper-batters (Azam Khan and Mohammad Rizwan), four all-rounders (Imad Wasim, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Wasim Jnr, and Shadab Khan), and four fast bowlers (Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali, Mohammad Hasnain and Shaheen Shah Afridi) are included in the 15-player squad.
