Babul Supriyo Former BJP MP
Unexpectedly, former Union Minister Babul Supriyo attended Congress in Trinamool on Saturday, days after officially announcing his resignation from politics. Babul Supriyo was one of the outspoken critics of Trinamool Supremo and West Bengal Prime Minister Mamata Banerjee, and when the latter announced his resignation from politics, he had previously claimed not to belong to any other political party.
During the recent cabinet reshuffle, Babul Supriyo was removed from his post and a few days later announced his political ban. However, he did not officially resign from the BJP. There is no rumour that Babul Supriyo Trinamool has joined Bhabanipur star activist Priyanka Tibrewal as a singer, politician and BJP candidate. He even tweeted in favor of Tibrewal, who represented the former minister in several court cases, Supriyo tweeted.
Trinamool said this was just the start, as many BJP executives are in talks with TMC management. “They are not satisfied with BJP. One (Babul Supriyo) joined today, another wants to join tomorrow. This process will go on. Wait and watch,” Trinamool leader Kunal Ghosh said.
The departure of a former heavyweight minister and popular singer shortly before the Bhabanipur by-election in which Priyanka Tibrewal will challenge Mamata Banerjee adds to TMC's strength. The former banker and singer joined the BJP in 2014 and won the constituency of Asansol Lok Sabha. Between 2014 and 2021, he was State Secretary for various departments including Urban Development, Housing, Urban Poverty Reduction, the Ministry of Heavy Industry, Public Enterprises, the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, etc. Their importance in the state has diminished. because of Dilip Ghosh when he lost his ministerial post after his defeat in the elections in West Bengal.
The former minister remained grateful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Interior Minister Amit Shah, but revealed in several of his social media posts how clashes between the BJP in West Bengal had demoralised grassroots workers.
