Bangladesh follows UAE, bans Indian passengers from travelling into the country.
After UAE temporarily banned Indian travelers in the country instead of the surging Covid cases in India, Bangladesh has also shown a closed-door to India due to the soaring Covid – 19 cases.
Bangladesh announced closing down its borders with its neighboring country India on Sunday after the latter has been reporting the highest daily spike in the number of cases for consecutive days.
Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen stated, “We are closing it for the passengers for the time being.”
He further stated that the decision had been taken because of the exponential growth of the novel coronavirus in India. Mentioning the announcement clearly, the foreign minister claimed that the land route used by people for travelling to and from the country had been shut down for two weeks starting from April 26. However, vehicles carrying goods to and from the borders are exempted from the order and will be allowed to operate.
The country’s Home Minister Asaduzzamman Khan Kamal, while speaking to Kalerkantha newspaper, stated, “The higher authorities have decided to close the borders for two weeks…The land routes with India will be shut from April 26."
