With a 3-2 victory over Cologne on Sunday, Bayern Munich earned their first Bundesliga win of the season, but Julian Nagelsmann slammed the defending champions' "wild" performance.
Bayern were ahead 2-0 after the break thanks to goals from Robert Lewandowski and Serge Gnabry, but Cologne fought back with two goals in as many minutes from Anthony Modeste and Mark Uth.
Nagelsmann's first Bundesliga victory came 19 minutes before the final whistle, when Gnabry smashed the winner into the roof.
"Letting them score at 2-1 and then 2-2 was unnecessary; we have to be careful not to keep giving away goals so easily and making things difficult for ourselves," Gnabry added.
Nagelsmann agreed that there was opportunity for development.
"The result is wonderful," Nagelsmann observed, "but the game was too wild for my taste."
On 50 minutes, second-half substitute Jamal Musiala, 18, ghosted through the Cologne defence and squared for Lewandowski to give Bayern the lead at the Allianz Arena.
The Poland international has already scored twice as many league goals in 2020/21 as he did last season, when he set a Bundesliga record with 41 goals.
Since last season, he has already scored in 12 consecutive Bundesliga games.
Only Bayern icon Gerd Mueller, who died last Sunday at the age of 75, had a higher record, scoring in 16 consecutive league games.
On 59 minutes, Gnabry extended the lead by converting a Thomas Muller cross.
Cologne equalised barely a minute later, and they deserve credit for rallying from a 2-0 deficit.
Modeste scored a header after Bayern defender Niklas Suele misread a cross.
On Cologne's next attempt, the French veteran swung in a cross, which Uth stabbed home to draw the game level.
When Gnabry picked his place from the outskirts of the box, his shot went past Cologne goalkeeper Timo Horn, restoring Bayern's lead.
