During the second wave of Covid-19 which already devastated the country, Andhra Pradesh
is continuously fighting with Mucormycosis, or black fungus. Districts of Andhra Pradesh like
Krishna, West Godavari, Chittoor, Nellore, and Anantapur have recorded over 200 cases of
black fungus. 50 cases have been recorded in a hospital of Guntur district.
People who have recovered from Covid-19 have shown this black fungus virus after a few
days from recovery. Diabetic people catch black fungus easily. The symptoms of this other
virus are swollen cheeks and red eyes. Whereas some of the doctors said this may be the
side effects of Covid-19 treatment.
Steroids have been taken by 80% of the Covid-19 patients, which leads to black fungus as a
side effect. Doctors advise people with diabetes to be more aware as black fungus people
attack diabetic people because of their weakened system and they should not take anti-viral
Amphotericin-B, an antifungal medicine which helps to stop spreading black fungus.
