Chattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel was literally "WHIPPED" when he was busy in Govardhan Puja. Today, at about 9:27 am, je posted a video of getting whipped on twitter. It got viral withinw seconds.
What did actually happen? Why and how can a Chief Minister be whipped in public so easily? Was not the state police eligible or capable enough to save him?
The Chiefe Minister was whipped with "Sonta", whip made of kush, a grass. According to Hindu mythology, some experts said, getting whipped by a kush brings prosperity to the house. The Chief Minister of Chattisgarh also performed this ritual with the moto to prosper the state. The twitted video was recorded in a village of Durga district of Chattisgarh. Bhupesh Baghel was taking a part in the ritual when the common man was asked to whip him! The video shows Bhupesh Baghel standing with his arms stretched side by side. A man comes after some time and starts whipping him with kush. When he completes eight rounds of whipping, he stops and hugs the Chief Minister.
After this event got viral, one government official said to the media,'Like every year,Chief Minister Baghel took part in Govardhan Puja in Janjgiri village and bore the pain of SONTA or whip to uphold the custom thatehas been going on for years for the well - being and prosperity of the people.'
The Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel also highlighted the religy values of the Govardhan puja. Uplifting it's values, he said,'It is the duty of everyone to preserve the identity of the soil and promote it.'
Bharosa Thakur started this tradition in the Janjgiri village. after his death, his responsible son Birendra Thakur follows this tradition of 'Sonta' and gets hit by the people of the village.
