Senior advocate Deepinder Singh Patwalia appointed as the new advocate General of Punjab.
The announcement was issued in an official notice by the Punjab Government on Friday.
After constant pressure by the state Congress chief Navojit Singh Siddhu to remove the state AG, Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi accepted the demotion of former advocate general AND Deol on November 9.
Siddhu was disappointed with the law firm headed by AG APS Deol who had represented Punjab DGP Sumedh Singh Saini in cases related to 2015 police firing incident, and wanted his resignation. Siddhu wanted to push him as the selection of the state's top law officer.
A clash and unease persisted between Siddhu and Channi over not only the appointment of AG, but also in regards to state DGP.
Siddhu volunteered to deliver a question against Channi, whether his firms selected 'compromised' officials or PCC chief, indicating his stake in the selection.
With previous deliberative arguments, it was reconciled that after signing off as the CM of Punjab, Siddhu asserted to file a charge the day a new AG gets appointed.
