DSGMC chief fumes as Gurdwara Bangla Sahib is asked to close due to the violation of the Covid-19 norm

For alleged violations of Covid-19 standards, the Chanakyapuri district administration has ordered the closure of Gurdwara Bangla Sahib here, prompting outgoing Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee president Manjinder Singh Sirsa to urge action against the top officials. On September 16, the Chanakyapuri sub divisional magistrate (SDM) issued an order. As per the order, the management of Bangla Sahib Gurudwara "allowed visitors/prayers inside the Gurdwara" in contravention of DDMA orders, according to a report given by executive magistrate (Chanakyapuri).

The order instructed that the Bangla Sahib Gurdwara, one of the most important Sikh shrines in the national capital, be closed to tourists immediately. To prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus infection, the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) had already ordered the reopening of sacred places, but visitors were not permitted.

Meanwhile, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, the outgoing head of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC), blasted the Chanakyapuri SDM order and requested that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal take action against the district authorities.“Cheap action by SDM Chanakyapuri by passing this order to close Gurudwara Shri Bangla Sahib for Covid Violations! We condemn this sick mentality of Delhi Govt & demand @ArvindKejriwal Ji to take strictest action against DC & SDM Geeta Grover,” he claimed in a video message on Twitter.

Sirsa went on to explain that the order to close the gurdwara was issued because it had aided many people during the Covid-19 second wave and lockdown by organising ‘langar' (free food) and setting up beds for patients. The Chanakyapuri SDM office, on the other hand, said that whatever happened was in accordance with the DDMA order and declined to comment more. PTI
