The second youngest to reach the semifinals of the US open: Emma Raducanu
Emma Raducanu upset Olympic gold medalist Belinda Bencic 6-3, 6-4 to reach the U.S. Open semifinals for the second time in two days.
The 18-year-old qualifier from the United Kingdom joined Canada's Leylah Fernandez, who qualified for the semifinals a day after her 19th birthday.
Raducanu fell behind 3-1 early in the quarterfinal match, but the match was turned around when she broke the 11th-seeded Bencic — who had only lost serve three times in four rounds — to tie it up at 3 during a five-game run.
Raducanu was the only woman outside the top 100 of the rankings to reach the U.S. Open semifinals, joining Billie Jean King in 1979 and 2009 champion Kim Clijsters.
Before her journey to the fourth round of Wimbledon three months ago, she wasn't even ranked in the top 350.
Raducanu will face either No. 4 Karolina Pliskova or Maria Sakkari, the 17th seed, in the semifinals.
