Salil Parekh, MD and CEO of Infosys
Salil Parekh, MD and CEO of Infosys, has been summoned by the Ministry of Finance to explain the problems with the new income tax filing system.
"Why even after 2.5 months since the launch of new e-filing portal, glitches in the portal have not been resolved. In fact, since 21/08/2021 the portal itself is not available," the income tax department said.
Since its debut, the much-touted new income tax portal 'www.incometax.gov.in' has had a rocky start due to technical issues.
On June 7, the new tax portal went live. There have been various faults in the system's operation since its inception. The Finance Minister had already raised the matter with Infosys, requesting that they resolve the objections expressed on social media by taxpayers, tax professionals, and other stakeholders.
Nirmala Sitharaman urged Infosys to improve the site to make it more compassionate and user-friendly, and conveyed her great worry about the myriad issues that stakeholders are facing.
In 2019, Infosys won a contract to construct the next-generation income tax filing system, which will cut return processing time from 63 days to one day and speed up refunds.
