Billy gilmour of scotland is seen warming up during the news photo
The Scottish FA has revealed that Scotland player Billy Gilmour has tested positive for Covid-19. Gilmour made his first international start in a 0-0 draw against England at Wembley, but will be unavailable for Tuesday's match against Croatia.
If Scotland qualifies for the first time for knock-out rounds of the major tournament, he will be away from his critical encounter with Croatia in Hampden Park and also for the probable round of the 16 ties. Other players are not believed to have been impacted or recognized as close connections, indicating that the rest of the squad will be accessible.
According to a report: "The Scottish FA can confirm that a member of the Scotland national team playing squad, Billy Gilmour, has tested positive for Covid-19".
"Having liaised with Public Health England since the positive test was recorded, Billy will now self-isolate for 10 days and therefore miss tomorrow's UEFA EURO 2020 Group D match against Croatia at Hampden."
The loss of Gilmour "knocks us sideways" as Clarke's side aim is the knockout stage for former Scotland player Graeme Souness says.
Souness feels Gilmour is already a vital player for Scotland, despite his complete debut against England.
"He was the best player on the pitch the other day," Souness marked a statement in news by saying, "It's an enormous blow for him, but what a blow for the nation. Just when things were looking good; we were playing good football, and he was the star of the show. For this to happen, it knocks us sideways".
"That midfield trio of Callum McGregor, John McGinn, and Gilmour was fabulous against England. They were good on the ball, they hunted it down and looked a strong three. This is an almighty blow for us, he added.
