Dr Balram Bhargava, chief of ICMR, today spoke about the country's testing strategy to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the second wave. He came up with the new strategy that will focus more on increasing the rapid antigen test so that the testing process can be faster and isolation can be done accordingly to break the chain. He focused on rapid antigen test to be done 24*7 in rural areas so that the accessibility and availability to COVID-19 detection becomes easily possible. Without the need of any accreditation. The booths for RAT will be set up with the community in schools, colleges, community centers and offices of the RWAs," added Dr Bhargava.

Along with setting up RAT boots in every nook and corner of the country he focused on public private partnership models to make testing innovative and convenient and even added that some States have already used such a strategy. Coming up with three-step plan to facilitate testing Dr bhargava said RT PCR test have been rationalized, and the focus must shift to increase in RAT test 24 early detection and test which have been approved by global agencies are underway for permission from drugs controller general of India (DCGI) and home based testing solutions are yet explored.

Coming to the guidelines for testing in case of travel Dr bhargava said,"No need for RT-PCR test in healthy individuals undertaking inter-state domestic travel, non-essential travel and interstate travel of symptomatic individuals should be essentially avoided. All asymptomatic individuals undertaking essential travel must follow Covid-19 appropriate behaviour."
