International Literacy Day

International Literacy Day

Today is International Literacy Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of literacy. The purpose of the day is to emphasise the value of literacy for individuals, communities, and societies, as well as the necessity for increased efforts to achieve a more literate society.

History of International Literacy Day

In 1966, the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) declared September 8th as International Literacy Day.International Literacy Day was first observed in 1967, and it has been observed annually for more than 50 years. The topic for this year's International Literacy Day is "Literacy for a Human-centered Recovery: Narrowing the Digital Divide."

According to UNESCO, this year's World Literacy Day will focus on how literacy may help set the groundwork for a human-centred recovery, with a particular focus on the interplay of literacy and digital skills needed by non-literate kids and adults.Manoj Sinha, the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, addressed the crowd.

In a statement, the Lieutenant Governor noted that Society Literacy Day reminds us that in today's world, which is propelled by knowledge and scientific innovations, there are still many individuals who lack proper education. He pointed out that education is the only way out of the darkness of ignorance and the walls of backwardness.

Mr Sinha stated that the Jammu and Kashmir government has made a number of ground-breaking efforts to bring education to people living in far-flung and isolated areas of the Union Territory. He urged all educated people in Jammu and Kashmir to raise awareness and work to ensure that every citizen in the Union Territory is educated and equipped with current world knowledge.
