EarthQuake in Delhi NCR
Delhi and NCR felt the Earthquake tremors on July 5 th (Monday) night with medium- intensities. This led people to rush out of their living places. Reports said that the earthquake's tremors were felt in the National capital and some parts of Gurugram at around 10:40 PM at night. Several people reported on social media about the earthquake tremors.
It was confirmed that Haryana's Jhajjar was hit by an earthquake with 3.7 magnitudes at 10:36 Pm on Monday by the National center for Seismology (NCS). It was discovered that the Epicenter, has 5 km depth and has been traced on spots 10 km north of Jhajjar. "Earthquake of Magnitude: 3.7, Occurred on 05-07-2021, 22:36:54 IST, Lat: 28.70 & Long: 76.65, Depth: 5 Km, Location: 10km N of Jhajjar, Haryana," tweeted by the National Centre of Seismology.
It is also noted that a low-intensity earthquake of magnitude 2.1 hit the Punjab Bagh area in the national capital on June 20. It is also reported that Delhi-NCR has felt earthquakes most of the time with low intensity, since last year. Hence, the National Center for Seismology arranged instruments in areas around Delhi-NCR to monitor seismic activity.
On the analysis of Satellite images, it is noted that the signatures of active faults have been observed in various locations like Wazirabad, Timarpur, and Kamla-Nehru-Ridge in Delhi; Jhunjhunu and Alwar districts in Rajasthan; Districts of Haryana such as Sonipat, Sohna, Gurugram, Rotak, Rewari and Nuh; and Baghpat district in UP. The epicenters of the earthquakes occured are in areas of northeast Delhi, Rohtak, Sonipat, Baghpat, Faridabad and Alwar.
