Gujarat, Rajkot and Jamnagar districts have had heavy rainfall since midnight. Massive flooding has wreaked havoc in Rajkots Dhoraji, Padadhri and Gondal Taluka. It also rained a lot in Jamnagar's Kalavad and Dhrol Taluka. The village of Khimrana in Jamnagar district has been closed due to flooding. The village of Aliyabada also reported that the rain had brought water up to his waist. Collector Rajkot announced a public holiday for schools and universities due to heavy rainfall.
Shortly after taking office at the Gujarat Summit, Prime Minister Bhupendra Patel held a high-level meeting on Monday to discuss the flooding situation in Saurashtra and parts of Jamnagar and Jamnagar districts caused by heavy rainfall.
According to the Office of the Chief Minister (CMO), the new Chief Minister called the Jamnagar collector and gave clear instructions for the rescue and relief operations. He asked the authorities to evacuate the people trapped in the water with the help of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).
“He sought details about the condition of the reservoir of Aji-2 Dam Due to heavy rains in Rajkot and urged the Rajkot Municipal Commissioner and collector to move the people from the low-lying areas to a safe place immediately,” the CMO said
In Rajkot, the prime minister also received data on 1,155 people living in the Aji lowlands who have been moved to safer places.
“ Bhupendra Patel instructed the system operators to arrange for three teams of NDRF from Rajkot and two teams for Jamnagar from Bhatinda. He is specifically instructed to give priority to rescue and relief operations,” it added
