Hemlata from Delhi and Aarya from Maharashtra dominate Day 1 at National Women's Elite Boxing Championships

The 5th Elite Women's National Boxing Championships got off to a brilliant start on Thursday when Hemlata from Delhi defeated PS Mantasaha Kumari from Assam 4-0 in the 50kg category.

The agile Hemlata didn't give Mantasaha a chance, combined his punches with precision and won the match unanimously at St. Joseph's International School in Hisar, Haryana.

Another highlight of the first day was the flawless performance by Maharashtra's Aarya Kulkarni, who defeated Yape Bamang of Arunachal Pradesh 5-0. It was a display of Kulkarni's total dominance that became apparent on the first lap and he only stopped on the last lap for an easy win.

Organized in conjunction with the Haryana Boxing Sangh, the tournament saw the participation of over 320 boxers from 36 states/union territories /Boards across the country. The 50kg category was dominated on the first day by Priti Chawan from Goa, who defeated Monika Pandey from West Bengal by stopping the referee's verdict, and Komal from Punjab who defeated Sonia Gauni from Uttarakhand 5-0.

In the 52 kg category, Anjali Sharma from Madhya Pradesh sat on the edge of her seats in V Vinodhini from Tamil Nadu. Two boxers were tied throughout the game, with Anjali Vinodhini winning 3-2 in the final.

After the resumption of national races after the Covid-19 pandemic, this is the second national championship hosted by the Indian Boxing Federation (BFI) after the success of the national competitions for juniors, youth and men.

The current gold and silver medal winners of the championship will receive a place in the national trainer camp. The two camp names in each category are selected based on their performance in the selection tests that take place immediately after the national championships.
