National Party leader Aam Aadmi and Delhi Prime Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday announced that the AAP would pass a law reserving 80% of private jobs in Goa for Goan. Kejriwal also said that if chosen, the PAA would also provide unemployment benefits to families with unemployed youth of Rs 3,000 per month and Rs 5,000 per month to families dependent on mining and tourism. until "jobs are restored".
Kejriwal arrived in Goa on Monday to mobilise his party's support ahead of general elections early next year.
During a press conference at a Mapusa hotel, Kejriwal said that Haryana had passed a law that reserves 80% of the jobs to its residents.“We will study that and bring about appropriate amendments according to Goan conditions.”
He said the AAP had a "elaborate plan" for Goa and said he had seven announcements to make regarding jobs in Goa. Kejriwal said the party will also provide unemployment benefits of Rs 3,000 per month to young jobless families and Rs 5,000 per month to families dependent on mining and tourism until jobs are restored. “We will arrange for one unemployed youth from every Goa house to get employment,” he added.
Kejriwal received Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to introduce home service in Goa and said: “He’s copying what was being done in Delhi. Why vote for duplicate, when you can vote for the original?”
Kejriwal further said that the party will set up a transparent system. “I have been told by Goan youth that to get a government job in Goa, you have to know the MLA, be his friend or party worker. Nothing happens without influence or bribes. We will put an end to this. A common Goan youth will have the right to a government job in Goa.”
“We will start a skill university in Goa like we have in Delhi. Here, any child can learn any skill he/she wants after Class 12 after which they can get a job or start work on their own. Until they get employment they will be our responsibility,” Kejriwal said.
The AAP plan also included new schools, hospitals, village clinics and road repairs, revitalising the mining industry and harnessing the "infinite opportunities " of tourism.
Earlier this month, the AAP launched a campaign against the unemployment problem in Goa, urging people not to vote for parties that have not created jobs. “With unemployment at its peak, Goa’s youth are not getting jobs. Government jobs are available only to people with money and connections. Coming to Goa to discuss this issue with the People of Goa,” Kejriwal had tweeted on Monday.
