Indian and New Zealand to co-operate on free and inclusive Indo-Pacific region

On Tuesday, India and New Zealand agreed to work together for a free and inclusive Indo-Pacific region following a foreign office consultation meeting. Riva Ganguly Das, secretary in the external affairs ministry, presided over the Indian side of the conference, while Mark Sinclair, deputy secretary of the Americas and Asia group in the foreign ministry, presided over the New Zealand side. 

The meeting discussed bilateral cooperation and steps to improve the key areas like defence and security trade and commerce as well as investment, counterterrorism and climate change. Assimilated local  issues were shared among each other and the external affairs ministry “reiterated the importance of closer cooperation for a rules-based international order and a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific region.” They further discussed steps to “enhance the depth and momentum of engagement in different areas including defence and security, trade and investment, space, counterterrorism, cybersecurity, disarmament and climate change, and for strengthening people-to-people ties”, according to the readout.
