As per IndiGo, domestic flights at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport's Terminal 2 may commence on July 22.
“Flight numbers 6E2000 - 6E2999 will arrive and depart from Terminal 2, Delhi, starting 22nd July 2021. Please check your flight number and terminal before leaving for the airport for a hassle-free journey,” IndiGo said on its website.
Owing to the continuing second wave of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic, aircraft services at Terminal 2 were stopped since May 18. This is due to declining travelers’ footfall and fewer flights. All scheduled flights were relocated to Terminal 3, the Delhi airport's only operating terminal.
According to a story published in the Times of India on Friday, officials from the Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) also stated that Terminal 2 might operate this month. A DIAL spokesman told the newspaper that in February of this year, they handled a maximum of 120,000 passengers on both domestic and international flights each day, the most since the Covid-19 epidemic in March of last year. Meanwhile, in the second wave of the pandemic, the number of passengers dropped to 30,000, and today, 60,000 people are serviced regularly, according to the aforementioned authority.
“Delhi airport has witnessed over three times rise in domestic passenger numbers from around 18,000 per day in mid of May 2021 to over 62,000 per day at the end of June 2021,” DIAL said in a statement.
