On Wednesday (09th June 2021),Former Union Minister Jitin Prasad,47, joined BJP, in a huge shock to the Congress, ahead of UP elections.
He was once a part of Rahul Gandhi's inner circle and Congress's top Brahmin face.
He joined BJP when the Congress is busy in a meeting in Delhi office to try and tackle the feud in Punjab. Punjab is also voting in 2022.
After accepting BJP's saffron scarf, Mr. Prasad stated that," I started feeling that I was in a party surrounded by politics. I started feeling that I was not able to contribute and work for the people. I wasn't able to work for the benefit of the people."
He added by saying that " BJP is the only real political party, it's the only National political party. Rest of the parties are regional. Only BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi can meet the challenges the country is facing now.
After Jyotiraditya Scindia left Congress (last year), Jitin Prasad was the second high profile former Rahul Gandhi to point out the flaws of BJP.
After Mr Prasad's exit, conjectures are there that another well known rebellious leader, Rajasthan Sachin Pilot is plann6 his way out.
In 2019 there were rumours that Jitin Prasad left Congress for BJP but later he denied. Some sources say that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra stopped him.
