The Union's Foreign Minister, S. Jaishankar, met his Saudi counterpart, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, on Sunday during his first visit to India in New Delhi. Al Saud arrived in India today for a three-day visit, where he is expected to visit Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The two heads of state or government discuss developments in Afghanistan after the takeover of the Taliban, Gulf and Indo-Pacific regions and cooperation between the two countries in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic ( Covid-19).

Jaishankar also urged Al Saud to resume direct flights between India and Saudi Arabia, which are still suspended due to the pandemic.

Jaishankar took to Twitter and posted excerpts from the meeting which he described as "cordial and productive."

The two ministers also discussed the implementation of the Council's strategic partnership agreement signed by India and Saudi Arabia during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the Gulf State in October 2019.

Officials from the Union's Foreign Ministry, familiar with the minutes of the meeting, said the two leaders discussed issues related to their relations with them, as well as regional and international issues of mutual concern.

"The two ministers reviewed the implementation of the 'Strategic Partnership Council Agreement' signed between the two sides during the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Saudi Arabia in October 2019," the MEA said.

They indicated that the delegates, led by the two heads of state and government, had discussions on the measures to be taken to strengthen their partnership on trade, investment, energy, defence, security, culture, consular affairs, health and people resources.
