Landslide in Japan 20 people missing and 2 were found feared of death on 03-July-2021- Reuters
It is recorded that almost 10 houses were destroyed and 20 people went missing in a large mudslide on Saturday. This happened due to the heavy rainfall in southwest Tokyo (Japan). This disaster happened at a time of about 10:30 AM according to local time in Atami city of Shizuoka prefecture. The areas along the Pacific ocean and eastern Japan have been swept by the heavy rain reported in Xinhua news.
The government of Shizuoka prefecture called the self-defense forces to help in searching for the missing people and for saving lives. Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga spoke with disaster minister Yasufumi Tanahashi over the landslide that occurred in Tokyo. Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga advised people to stay safe and cautious as there would be heavy rainfalls. He also ordered the emergency task force to tackle the crisis and remain alert in affected places.
The forces found two people with cardiac arrest in Atami, in the southwest of Tokyo, and were sent to hospitals. The footage of collapsed and submerged houses of people were aired and the rescue team works in waist-line high water with small lifeboats.
Almost 80 percent of people were evacuated from Atami city by the rescue team. The Tokyo Electric Power also cited that almost 2,830 houses in that area face power supply problems.
