Lata Mangeshkar is one of the most iconic playback singers of India who has sung many film and non-film memorable songs. She has crores of fans all over the world who consider Lata to be an incarnation of Maa Saraswati. Lata has sung songs in more than a thousand Hindi films. He has sung mainly in Hindi, Marathi and Bengali. She has sung songs in more than 36 languages which is a record in itself.
Lata Mangeshkar was born on 28 September 1929 in Indore, which is now located in Madhya Pradesh. She is the elder daughter of Pandit Deenanath Mangeshkar and Shevanti. Lata's father Pandit Deenanath Mangeshkar was a Marathi musician, classical singer and theater actor while mother was a Gujarati. Shevanti was his second wife. His first wife's name was Narmada, after whose death Dinanath made Narmada's younger sister Shevanti his life partner.
Since childhood, Lata got an atmosphere of music and art in the house and she was attracted to it. From the age of five, Lata was taught music lessons by her father. Lata also started acting in her father's plays. Lata was also sent to school, but on the very first day she had a rift with her teacherIn 1942, a mountain of trouble broke out on Lata Mangeshkar. When her father died, Lata was only 13 years old.
The burden of the family fell on Lata. Master Vinayak, owner of Navyug Chitrapat Movie Company, people close to the Mangeshkar family helped Latha build her career as a singer and actress.Lata Mangeshkar shifted to Mumbai in 1945 and after that her career started taking shape. There he started learning Indian classical music from Ustad Aman Ali Khan of Bhindi Bazar Gharana.
The hymn 'Mata Tere Charan Mein' sung in the film Badi Maa (1945) and 'Paa Lagoon Kar Jori' sung by Lata in the 1946 release 'Aapki Seva Mein' attracted people's attention.In 1949 a film was released 'Mahal'. In this, Khemchand Prakash sang the song 'Aayega Aane Wala' from Lata which was picturized on Madhubala. This song was a super hit. This song is considered one of the finest songs of Lata and is heard even today. After the success of this song, Lata never looked back.
