Navjot Singh Sidhu
Malvinder Singh Mali, who has been chastised for his contentious views on Kashmir, resigned as an adviser to Punjab Congress head Navjot Singh Sidhu on Friday. Mali, on the other hand, did not refer to it as a "resignation." In a statement posted on his Facebook page, Mali said, "I humbly submit that I withdraw my consent given for tendering suggestions to Navjot Singh Sidhu".Mali said in a separate Facebook post that the issue of his resignation did not arise because he never accepted the position. Mali stated in a Punjabi post that he has neither accepted nor resigned from any position. In the midst of a power struggle in Punjab,
Chief Minister Amarinder Singh told Sidhu on Sunday to "rein in" his advisers after two of them made "atrocious" comments on Kashmir and Pakistan recently. Harish Rawat, the AICC general secretary in charge of Punjab affairs, has also stated that the two advisers must go.Sidhu appointed Mali, a former government teacher and political analyst, and Pyare Lal Garg, a former registrar of Baba Farid University of Health and Sciences, as his advisers on August 11 in order to seek their advice.Mali recently addressed the subject of removal of Article 370 of the Constitution, which granted special status to the former state of Jammu and Kashmir, in a social media post.
He is claimed to have declared that if Kashmir was a part of India, there was no need for Articles 370 and 35A. He also stated that Kashmir is a Kashmiri people's country. Another of Sidhu's advisers, Garg, is said to have questioned the chief minister's criticism of Pakistan. The chief minister had warned against such "atrocious and ill-conceived comments that were potentially dangerous to the peace and stability of the state and the country".
