Mamata Banerjee from Goa says “Modiji More Powerful Because Of Congress"

Bengal Prime Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday criticized Congress for making Prime Minister Narendra Modi (and the BJP) "more powerful" by acting as the party's publicist, and appeared to side with a possible alliance in the run-up to the election. .
She accused Congress of failing to recognize the need to unite the opposition and stressed the importance of regional parties in fighting the BJP and strengthening India's federal structure.

"Modiji is going to be more powerful because of the Congress... because the Congress is the BJP's TRP (television ratings points). If they (the Congress) cannot take a decision... the country will suffer. Why (should) the country suffer... they have had enough opportunity," the Trinamool chief said.

To promote Trinamool in Goa - and to speak to Vijay Sardesai's Goa Forward Party (a former ruling BJP ally) - she referred to the April/May elections in Bengal.

As a result, Congress rejected the option of an alliance with Trinamool, opting instead for a partnership with the left and, controversially, the secular Indian front. President of the State Congress, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, magnanimously said: "there will not be any BJP or Trinamool... only the grand alliance will remain."

There was a victory in the polls - neither the left nor the GOP won a single seat. Trinamool - who scored a strong victory - lamented Congress' reluctance to unite this week.

"Instead of contesting against the BJP they (the Congress) contested against me in Bengal... the morning shows the day, don't you think? They contest against me... my party. What do you think... we will give flowers to them?" Ms Banerjee said.

Congress also rejected an offer to join the Goa Forward party.

"I am not going to discuss the Congress because that is not my party. I have a regional party without any support... and we are fortunate to form a government with the people's support. I will not talk about any other party. Let them decide," Ms Banerjee said today.

"We want to give seats to regional parties... I want to see regional parties become strong. And we want a union of states. The federal structure should be strong... every state must be strong. And if every state is strong, then the centre will also be strong," she said.

Regarding an alliance with the PSC, Ms Banerjee said: "It is their (the Goa Forward Party) decision... We want to avoid the division of votes (between their two parties). Regional and local parties can work together and give a good fight to the BJP," she said.

Next year's elections to the 40-person assembly of Goa will be closely watched, both for their results and for ongoing polls examining the poor performance of Congress.

In this regard, Ms. Banerjee's words coincide with those of opinion strategist Prashant Kishor that the BJP will remain a force in the Indian political landscape for the foreseeable future and that Congress must reconsider its priorities in order to influence the political landscape. . from India.
