England cricket team's Fast bowler "Mark Wood"
The England and Wales Cricket Board announced on Monday that fast bowler Mark Wood will miss the third Test against India. Due to a "jarred right shoulder," Wood has been ruled out of the Headingley Test, which begins on August 25.
England have not named a replacement for the third Test, but have stated that Mark Wood will be evaluated after the match. During the 3rd Test in Leeds, the 31-year-old will remain with the England squad.
"Wood sustained the injury on the fourth day of the second Test at Lord’s and will not be fit to play at Emerald Headingley starting on Wednesday. He will remain with the squad in Leeds and will continue his rehab with the England medical team. The 31-year-old will be assessed at the end of this Test match," the ECB said in a statement.
The loss to Mark Wood is a major setback for England, who are also without Stuart Broad, Chris Woakes, and Olly Stone owing to injury worries. Saqib Mahmood, England's top bowler, is expected to take Wood's position in the Headingley Test. The hosts will also be without all-rounder Ben Stokes, who has withdrawn from the entire Test series.
On Day 4 of the 2nd Test, the express paceman injured his shoulder diving to preserve a boundary. While crashing headfirst through an advertisement hoarding, Wood landed heavily on his right shoulder. Despite his pain, Wood bowled on Day 5, reaching speeds of over 90 kilometres per hour.
