According to government estimates, some 100 people remained lost in Maharashtra's six flood-affected areas, where plenty were crushed or swept away in landslides sparked by torrential rains last week, resulting in the deaths of 164 people. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) called off emergency response at a few landslide locations late Sunday, including Taliye in Raigad and Ambeghar in Satara, as the chance of discovering further missing persons dwindled 53 persons are still missing in three landslide areas in Raigad district, according to the state administration. In Ratnagiri, 14 individuals are still missing. “Since there is no possibility of finding the missing persons from the landslide sites,

the search operations at three sites in Satara and three in Raigad have been called off. One child from the Ambeghar landslide location is still missing. The respective villages have been taken into confidence before winding up the rescue ops. The NDRF teams were still in the flood hit districts, and the decision of their withdrawal will be taken at an appropriate time,” said an official from Mantralaya.Following a few additional remains were found by the NDRF and armed forces since Sunday, the number killed in eight districts has grown to 164. Last week, three landslides in Raigad killed 71 people, joined by 41 in Satara, 21 in Ratnagiri, 7 in Kolhapur, and 12 in Thane. On Sunday evening, a few thousand additional people were evacuated from Sangli and Kolhapur, bringing the total number of persons evacuated to almost 2,50,000.
