NDRF search and rescue operation continues all night
This is a 2nd such collapse around Mumbai in much less than ten days
Rescue operations continued through the night, but the death toll from the collapse of a building in Mumbai reached 14 on Wednesday morning, the NDRF reported.
"National Disaster Response Force (NDRF): Death toll rises to 14 in the Kesarbhai building collapse incident," tweeted ANI on Wednesday morning.
Meanwhile, the battalion informed the PTI National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) that search and rescue operations continued throughout the night.
"It (search and rescue operations) will go on till the last piece of rubble is not removed from the spot," he mentioned.
The official said his team heard that there were several clients on the ground floor and no one knew the exact number."So our job is still left to rescue those men," he mentioned.
Mumbai Fire Chief P.S. Rahangdale said two children aged 6 to 8 and two children aged about 4 were rescued from the rubble by firefighters.
"Both kids were sent to Sir JJ hospital in 108 Ambulance, but they were declared dead," Rahangdale mentioned, Firefighters injured in the line of duty.
A member of the BMC Disaster Management Center said on Wednesday morning that three more bodies have been found and taken to a nearby hospital, and will be reported by waiting doctors.
Destroyed buildings in the Dongri area of Mumbai collapsed on Tuesday, killing more than 10-12 families. At the moment, rescuers have found 14 bodies.
Local residents reported the accident at about 11:40 am on Tuesday. Rescue operations continued after about 20 hours, as many were still afraid of being trapped under the rubble under the hill. The building is illegal and an official from the Maharashtra State Housing Authority said the building was not under their control.
