Odisha is currently enjoying the agrarian festival Nuakhai
Today in Odisha, the state's most important agrarian festival, Nuakhai, is being celebrated. Many dignitaries, including Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, have wished the people peace, prosperity, and great health. People present the new grains of crops to the deities before eating them themselves, as is traditional. Nuakhai is also a social cohesiveness celebration, as all members of the family assemble to celebrate it. To commemorate the occasion, a multitude of cultural and sporting festivities are being organized around the state.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted people on the auspicious occasion of Nuakhai Juhar's agriculture festival. On Nuakhai, we praise the outstanding efforts of our industrious farmers and their role in nation building, Mr. Modi said in a tweet today. He wished everyone good health and wellbeing.
Goddess Samaleswari, the presiding deity of western Odisha, is worshipped at the Nuakhai festival. According to custom, Goddess Samaleswari will be offered a porridge made from a new paddy crop known as 'Nabanna,' and a blessing for a bumper harvest will be sought.
The Nabanna was offered to the Samaleswari Goddess today between 10.15 AM and 10.25 AM, as per the ‘lagna' for the ritual set by the Pundit Mahasabha. The event is observed by family members and relatives who worship the household deity.
