On camera: Dramatic shooting in Delhi court in which 3 people were killed
Terrified men and children rushed to safety when a court video was shot in Delhi showing three criminals killed in a daring shooting today.
During his trial, mobster Jitender Gogi was shot by rival mobsters who appeared in court disguised as lawyers and opened fire. A judge, lawyers and others were reportedly in the courtroom during the shooting.
The video showed the moment when the gangsters started shooting. Security guards escorting Gogi retaliated against the attackers, who were not seen in the photos.
Gogi was shot dead three times before security forces fired at the gunmen. He was pronounced dead in hospital
Many are injured and hospitalized. Among them is a lawyer who is present in the courtroom.
The video shows two children running away from the sound of gunfire.
A group, including lawyers, inspected the shooting range and some tried to go into hiding.
Killing gang members in court who went through security detectors and metal detectors with guns is a serious security breach.
The shooting was the result of a long-standing rivalry between Jitender Gogis Gang and his rival "Tillu Gang", police said.
Tillus Gang had decided to kill Gogi, who had been in prison since March of last year, when he was tried today.
"Two men dressed as lawyers opened fire at Jitender Gogi inside the court. That's when police retaliated and killed those two assailants. It's not a gang war," Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana told NDTV.
“The police acted swiftly and killed both the assailants. Total three are dead, including Gogi,” said Mr Asthana
More than 25 people have been killed in clashes between the two gangs over the years, according to police.
