Mother Teresa's birth anniversary
Mother Teresa, a Nobel Laureate, is noted for her commitment to helping the poorest of the poor. In the year 1950, she started 'The Missionaries of Charity,' a philanthropic organisation in Calcutta (now Kolkata). "its primary task was to love and care for those persons nobody was prepared to look after," according to the Nobel Prize website.
Mother Teresa was born in Skopje, Macedonia, on August 26, 1910. When she was 18 years old, she left her home to join the Sisters of Loreto, an Irish community of nuns with missions in India. She was afterwards transported to India, where she made her first vows as a nun on May 24, 1931.The world is commemorating her 111th birthday this year.
