On Monday (07th June 2021), the former Union Minister P Chidambaram denied the statement of the PM that the centre's allowed states to buy vaccines in response to demands from states but surrendered after a February letter by Mamata Banerjee, Chief Minister West Bengal.
P Chidambaram also tweeted that he told the ANI news agency asking which state government demanded that it should be allowed to directly procure vaccines.
The former Union Minister said that " I was wrong. I stand corrected".
The social media activists have also posted a copy of the letter of CM to the PM making such a request.
In the letter, Mamata Banerjee asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to allow Bengal to procure its vaccine so that the state can fulfil its requirements.
P Chidambaram told the news agency that the primary aim was that the central government learned from its mistakes and corrected them. The Prime Minister blamed the opposition party for the mistakes they made and the problems caused due to it.
The Prime Minister asked that which CM, which state government on which date, asked to procure its vaccine program.
