New Parliament Building
Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached the construction site of the new Parliament building on Sunday night and took stock of the ongoing work there. After reaching the construction site of the new Parliament being built under the Central Vista project, PM Modi took stock of the construction work for an hour. PM Modi went to the construction site at around 8:45 pm. He spent about an hour at the site and inspected the condition of the construction. The construction of the new Parliament building is expected to be completed by the second half of next year. Official sources said Modi inspected the construction work and interacted with the people involved in it.
The building is part of the Central Vista project which has faced criticism from the opposition. According to government officials, the winter session of Parliament will be held in the new building in 2022. The area of the new Parliament building will be 64,500 sq ft. It will have a grand 'Constitution Hall' in which India's democratic heritage will be preserved. Apart from this, there will be space for MPs' lounge, library, several committee rooms, dining rooms and parking. In the new building, there will be a seating arrangement for 888 members in the Lok Sabha while 384 members will be able to sit in the Rajya Sabha.
Significantly, with the construction of the new Central Vista, the view from Rashtrapati Bhavan to India Gate will change. Officials associated with this big project say that in view of the needs of the next two hundred and fifty years, work is going on to build a world-class central vista. It is the responsibility of CPWD to complete this project under the Ministry of Urban Affairs.
Under the Central Vista project, the new Parliament building will be ready by November 2022. By December 2022, the new residence of the vice chairman and therefore the Prime Minister also will be ready near North Block and South Block respectively. Apart from this, preparations are also being made to form a common central secretariat. The building of SPG also will be ready by December 2022. Under the Central Vista project, during the construction of about a dozen buildings at a cost of 13450 crores, it is estimated that 46700 people will get temporary employment
