Population in China declines, Beijing sought lowest birthrate in 2020
Beijing recorded the lowest number of births in 2010. After the official reports have been revealed, experts say that the population of Chinese capital could start shrinking from 2022 and in China by 2027.
According to the reports of Global Times on Wednesday, Beijing has more than 21 million people, which is an indication that the number of people in China could start to decrease six years from now.
The birthrate in Beijing was decreased to 32,000 in 2020 from 100,368, which was recorded in the previous year. Not only in Beijing, Other cities in China in eastern China's Zhejiang and southern China's Guangdong provinces have also reported the decrease in the births in 2020 in the past six to 10 years.
The state media report comes a day after the London-based Financial Times newspaper reported that China had reported its first decrease in the population in five decades following a once-in-a-decade census completed last December.
