Post-poll violence in parts of Bengal, several dead, MHA seeks report
Barely a day after the state election result, there were reports of clashes between the two political rivals BJP and TMC. TMC won the hotly contested election. 4 were killed in Purba bardhaman district in a conflict between TMC and BJP workers, a report said.
The MHA has sought a report on the post-poll violence from the Bengal government. “MHA has asked the West Bengal government for a report on the post-election violence targeting opposition political workers in the state,” it said in a tweet.
The incident took place when some TMC workers were on their way to Nabagram and were attacked by BJP workers. BJP rejected the allegations, saying that the incident was a result of “people’s resistance.”
A 19-year-old was shot dead in sitalkuchi in Cooch Behar district. BJP claimed that another party worker, Mintu Barman, died in a hospital of injury from a sharp weapon.
