Brazil decided to cancel the $320 million contract to get 20 million doses of Covaxin from Bharat Biotech, as the alleged irregularities regarding the deal, as the fixed price of $15 per dose. On Friday Congress demanded the Centre, Prime minister Narendra Modi and The Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan to break their silence on this issue.
At the press conference at party headquarters, Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate addressed: “Indians have the first right on getting vaccines made and manufactured in India while the government provides vaccines to other countries instead of supplying them in India. And Bharat Biotech or the Serum Institute of India (SII) needs to answer this question that was raised among the people.”
She continues that Vaccines made in India have a great controversy among countries like Brazil etc.
She said: “We are staring at the cancellation of these deals and the criminal agencies are now investigating this issue over ICMR as it is the co-developer of the vaccine Covaxin.”
“Why does the government provide vaccines to other countries while India is undergoing a tough phase of corona, while the vaccines were prepared by using the public funds and tax payer’s money are used for this”, she raised.
“Break the silence and answer us about what happened to that money”, she asked.
She also stated that The Bharat Biotech has signed a contract to supply 20 million doses to Brazil.
