Ravi Kumar Dahiya
Indian wrestler Ravi Kumar Dahiya staged a sensational show on Wednesday, August 4 (August 4), defeating Kazakhstan Nurislam Sanayev in the semifinals, winning the gold medal in the 57 kg weight category. Dahiya is the second Indian wrestler to qualify for the Olympic final at the 2012 London Olympics after Sushil Kumar.
Dahiya will now face Russian Zaur Uguev in the final on Thursday (August 5) and looks set to become India's second gold medalist at the Tokyo Olympics after Abhinav Bindra at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
The fourth Indian lagged 2-9 after Sanayev made several stops (leg straps). However, when the time was up, Dahia regrouped and grabbed the opponent with a two-footed blow, which led to a "knockout victory". Despite the huge delay, Dahia did not panic and showed tremendous mental strength, dramatically turning the game in his favor.
After the first half, Dakhiya took the lead 2:1, but Sanayev prepared himself and caught the Indians' left leg well, instantly turning it into three or six runs. Suddenly Dahiya lost the lead and she expected defeat, but her outstanding stamina and technical strength was still at work. There was enough time left to fix everything, and he did it in style.
Having caught Sanayev with two feet, he pressed the Kazakh with his back to the mat and finished the game with a strong pin. Dahia has also dominated previous games as the 23-year-old has won two previous technical excellence competitions in the final.
