One of the most beloved author of the world, Ruskin Bond , is going to turn 87 on May 19. On the occasion of his birthday he is going to launch his new book titled All-Time Favourite for Children, The book is being featured with some of his most loved cartoon characters and stories, it is also going to contain some of his New works. Puffin, the Children’s imprint of Penguin Random House is publishing his new work.
The author was born in Kasauli and has always wanted to be a writer. In one of his speech on 23 April, on the occasion of World Book Day he told about his childhood that “In a way, books were my escape – at the age of 12, I used to read more than 5 books a week. All I wanted was to emulate my favourite authors, so I started writing short stories. And in 1951, my first story was published in a local magazine; I was 16!”
He also spoke about his bachelorhood and also mentioned that have missed many opportunities in his life and said “I mean, here I am, at 87, still a bachelor! So in the 1960s, I adopted my house help’s kids– they’re my family. But being a writer meant living hand to mouth, so I’d often go to Delhi and do odd jobs. And when I had enough money, I’d come up to the hills to write.”
