Report says that depending on social media platforms for news consumption may lead to fake news, misinformation etc..
Online platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp and YouTube are the most widely used online platforms for consumption of news. According to an international survey, in India 73% of people use mobile to know news, only 37% of people use computers.
Most of the answers revealed that they use WhatsApp and YouTube for news consumption. The reason behind more usage of mobiles cost is cheaper, easy internet access to the mobile than computer.
Facebook is seen as the main platform for spreading of false news almost everywhere spreading of false information can be done through online social media platforms like Facebook WhatsApp etc..
Nice Newman, senior research associate, said in the report that messaging apps like Facebook, WhatsApp are seen as a bigger problem in parts of the global South such as Brazil and Indonesia.
