Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will soon deploy an improved contactless ticketing system as part of a new system called Near Field Communication (NFC) that can make smartphones behave like metro smart cards. Passengers can pay for their journeys with debit and credit cards, near field communication, mobile phones with tickets based on QR codes and QR tickets on paper that are not smart cards. This option is currently only available on the Airport Express line in the capital.

In the fourth phase, the DMRC will soon install an ATM system (AFC) in 44 metro stations in Delhi. In addition, the AFC gates of the existing train station will also be renewed. Commuters must bring their phones closer to the Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) gate in order to enter. When the phone is touched or approached, the device establishes a radio link with the AFC door.

The DMRC said the new system would help digitize services beyond cashless and error-free transactions. Currently, this facility is available in some metropolitan areas such as Kochi and Nagpur. However, commuters can only pay for their subway tickets with debit or credit cards from certain banks. The DMRC system accepts transactions from all banks via the RuPay portal. The new system will also help to create more “fare zones” in the subway network.

You will soon be able to pay for your metro ticket via:

1. Smart card

2. National common mobility card

3. NFC cell phone

4. Mobile phone QR code:

5. Paper QR ticket

According to reports, this new system will also allow modifications via smart cards. Currently, a passport must pay the fine to go to customer service. They found that DMRC also set up point of sale (POS) terminals with ATMs and customer service at Phase I and II stations.
