The debutant from Papua New Guinea scored a total of 129/9 of his compulsory 20 overs in the opening game of the 2021 ICC T20 World Championship in Al Amerat in Muscat. Assad Vala scored the best with 56 shots while Charles Amini scored 37. Oman Skipper Zeeshan Maqsood was the choice of the 4/20 Oman Bowler. This morning Maqsood reached the nest and decided to go bowling.
"The pitch looks dry and we have spin bowlers with us," Maqsood said at the toss of the first round match. "We have prepared really well and are looking to give our best and qualify for the next round."
PNG captain Assad Vala was confident that his team, competing in a World Cup for the first time, was doing well.
"I would have bowled first as well. The preparation has been good and we need to use our flair and give everything we have got," said Vala. "We want to play the PNG way, which you hopefully will see soon. We have a good all-round team."
The seventh edition of the tournament will be hosted by Oman and the United Arab Emirates, with India hosting the Cricket Control Council. The two best teams in Group B will compete against the heavyweights on the Super 12 stage from October 23rd.
